Our Story
Carter’s started on Chestnut Street in late 2024 with a simple goal: make great food, keep it real, and create a place where people actually want to hang out. We brought together three things Philly knows well: pizza, cheesesteaks, and cold beer. No gimmicks, no shortcuts, just food made the right way.
From day one, our cheesesteaks have been about quality. We use a full pound of premium ribeye, chopped and sliced to order, piled onto a long seeded roll, and finished with our house-made sauce. In Philadelphia, people take their cheesesteaks seriously, and so do we.
As we became part of the University City community, we wanted to create something that felt a little different while still staying true to what we do best. That’s where our Korean Bulgogi came in. We marinate premium ribeye in our house-made bulgogi sauce and turn it into a cheesesteak, a pizza, or loaded fries. It’s become one of those combinations you try once and immediately understand.
Not long after opening, we put our food to the test by giving away 100 free cheesesteaks to 100 self-proclaimed cheesesteak connoisseurs. The response was incredible, and the moment even caught the attention of WooderIce. By 2026, being recognized as a Best of Philly nominee was another reminder that what started as a simple idea was becoming something special.
Today, Carter’s is more than just a place to grab a cheesesteak or a slice. We’re a late-night spot for students, faculty, neighbors, and anyone looking for good food, cold beer, and a relaxed place to stay awhile.
